Arthur Kane
Arthur Kane aka Arthur "Killer" Kane (February 3, 1949 - July 13, 2004) was the bassist for the legendary punk glam rock group the New York Dolls. Prior to this he had played bass for the band Actress.He was active in The New York Dolls until they broke up in 1977. (See New York Dolls)Arthur Kane briefly cooperated with Blackie Lawless from W.A.S.P. in a band called Killer Kane (Single "Mr. Cool"). Kane was also a memeber of the Idols and the Corpse Grinders.He also was an extra in such films as Innerspace.Later in life, after an attempted suicide, Kane was at his breaking point and sought out spirituality, and in 1989 converted to become an an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints ("Mormons"). A film, ''Doll'' (IMDB, Review), exploring the change in Kane's life and a New York Dolls reunion organized in June 2004 at the Royal Festival Hall by the British rocker Morrissey, premiered at the 2005 Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah. http://festival.sundance.org/2005/docs/05sun_FG_films.pdfAt the time of the reunion, he was not aware that he had leukemia. Kane died July 13, 2004 in Los Angeles of complications related to that disease, just a month after the New York Dolls' reunion, which he had sought for much of his adult life.Lead Singer for the Dolls, David Johansen David Johansen, wrote about Kane's death, "It's good to know that he went out on a high point in his musical life but he will be sorely missed." Regarding the Dolls' reunion, Morrissey also said, "I will always remember the look of bashful happiness on Arthur's face as people in the audience constantly called out his name. He was finally back where he belonged."
