Gregory Hetson (born June 29, 1961), better known as Greg is a guitarist in two veteran punk rock bands, Bad Religion and The Circle Jerks. He was born in Brooklyn, New York and has lived in Los Angeles, California since he was 2 years old. While he declares Bad Religion as his main occupation, he has alternated between both Bad Religion and The Circle Jerks since 1995.
Greg Hetson and The Circle Jerks
In 1980, Hetson abandoned his position as guitarist of the punk/alternative band Redd Kross to form The Circle Jerks with former Black Flag vocalist Keith Morris. Soon after, they released their debut LP, ''Group Sex'' and in 1981 were featured in the Los Angeles documentary ''The Decline of Western Civilization'' along with several other Los Angeles punk bands.In 1982, The Circle Jerks released their second album ''Wild in the Streets''. This album, while popular, did not sell nearly as much as their third LP ''Golden Shower of Hits'', released in 1983.
Greg Hetson and Bad Religion
Greg Hetson was credited on Bad Religion's debut album ''How Could Hell Be Any Worse?'' for playing the solo for the song Part III. Hetson's first full album with Bad Religion was the highly unsuccessful, ''Into the Unknown'', released in 1983, which abandoned the band's previous punk sound for the currently more popular sound of psychedelic rock. The band, soon after the release of the record, disbanded.In 1987, Hetson reunited the band, calling them from all parts of the world to come and begin to practice in Los Angeles. The band soon released their highly acclaimed, comeback album ''Suffer''. In 1993, Hetson was forced to choose between The Circle Jerks and Bad Religion. Due to Bad Religion's growing success with the albums ''Against the Grain'' and ''Generator'', he chose Bad Religion. Hetson, in 1995, rejoined The Circle Jerks, and has continued to play in both bands.Hetson, Greg
